We were tasked by our client to design and produce a tool capable of holding engine blades securely while they are being friction welded. With over half a century of experience supplying tooling solutions for the aerospace sector, this was a challenge we were more than willing to take on.
Due to the lack of clearance between each blade in the friction welding process, the sections of the tool needed to be extremely thin and very tight tolerances were required. To overcome these challenging requirements, we used Aermet to manufacture the tool, a steel alloy known for its strength and ductility, making it the perfect material for this tricky application.
